Blood Flow restriction

Blood flow restriction (BFR) training is a rehabilitation technique in which a controlled tourniquet is placed on a limb to limit blood flow during a strength exercise. By partially occluding the blood flow to the muscles we are training, it is thought to stimulate the metabolic pathways required for strength changes. This technique allows for muscular strength and hypertrophy gains with lower intensity exercise.  This can be especially beneficial when you are recovering from an injury, as it allows you to continue to strength train when you may not be able to tolerate your normal loads.  This technique has been extensively used in our country's recovering military members, tactical athletes, and professional athletes and is now offered at In Motion Physical Therapy!  Your physical therapist will conduct a thorough evaluation and determine if BFR could be right for you.
